It may not be party conversation, but it gets an ungraceful snigger from Hephaestia. Someone here has no illusions about her family, and isn't interested in pretending otherwise. The comment about Harrowheart's aversion to tuxedos is met with a sympathetic smile from Emily.
"My sister is over there somewhere," Hephaestia tells him with a vague gesture behind her. "No doubt keeping an eye on my husband. She's good like that."
Emily lifts a hand to cover a laugh at Harrowheart's next question. She composes herself quickly before answering. "We don't, no. Only Durants have patrons and scholars officially like this, and I am not a part of their family."
"Not to them," Hephaestia grumbles.
"I'd make a poor patron, anyway," Emily moves swiftly on. "I hear they have to protect their scholars as well and I don't have a drop of magic, or the nerves to use gun."
