The family Drachenblut were so named for being descended from a dragon.
The family Despoinides were revered as being blessed by Hecate and Despoina.
When these two families joined they began a bloodline to be reckoned with. Their heritage gave them a sense of authority that entitled them to enforce a rigid structure upon all those who claimed to be descended from these two families. This sense of authority has permeated to all areas they are a part of. It is certainly not without merit, however.
With blood rich in magical power and natural talent, family fortune and a wealth of ancestral knowledge, combined with the strict enforcement of research and study, their bloodline is filled with experts and masters.
The 'Durants' are now the largest descendant family, and the most important as the family archon is currently under their name. However, keeping track of family all over the world is a difficult task. The varied and increasingly dangerous fields of research along with a general rule of two children per member mean that they risk the bloodline thinning. Nevermind the lure of a normal modern life.
