If it's emotional twisting Peonia wants, then Jim Kirk will play ball. She's clearly flirting. Her body language and smile are all turned onto the captain. What would Felix do in this situation? She is a mage, right? Dumping obvious praise onto her from a man who doesn't do magic is too obvious.
"You've caught me." Jim gives a low chuckle and shoots her a charming smile that is the slightest bits guilty. "In my line of work, maneuvering through potentially dangerous situations would be nearly impossible if I wasn't at least a little bit good at influencing others."
